To continue celebration of their 50th season and the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Untermyer Performing Arts Council is delighted to present Mayor’s Disability Advisory Board Chair Carole Conklin speaking on the importance of the ADA at 5:40 pm and the Peace of Heart Choir at 6:00 pm July 26th at Untermyer Park, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers.

Peace of Heart Choir formed soon after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.  Affected profoundly by the tragedies, a collective and individual sense of loss, members came together to contribute to the area’s healing efforts.

The Peace of Heart’s aim is to promote healing, diversity, community bonding, and mutual understanding through music.  They are an inclusive group and make concerted efforts to include individuals from all communities, abled and disabled.

With more than two decades of experience producing live music, rehearsing and performing weekly outreach concerts throughout the fall and spring seasons, they believe the power of music is universal.  Their goal is to leave audiences joyous.

The choir is self-managed by a dedicated core group of 30 members. They include professional singers, musicians, designers, marketers, programmers and community activists.

All Untermyer Performing Arts Council’s performances are free and open to the public; everyone is welcome.  We cannot provide seating at the park, so please bring chairs or blankets.

In case of rain, this performance will be held at Saunders High School, 183 Palmer Road, Yonkers.  If the weather looks bad, please call our Arts Line (914-375-3435) or check our website (www.untermyerperformingarts.org) after 3 pm the day of the performance to determine where the program will be held.

This program is made possible by Arts Westchester with support from Westchester County Government, the City of Yonkers, Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, Senator Shelley Mayer, Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, and our supporters.

The Untermyer Performing Arts Council (UPAC) was formed in 1976 to promote the appreciation of the performing arts in Yonkers and beyond. UPAC’s mission was to foster and sponsor performing arts events at the historic Untermyer Park and other venues in Yonkers. UPAC is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that relies on public grants and private donations. To ensure accessibility and welcome the broadest public audience, all UPAC events are free and open to everyone.

In keeping with UPAC’s “WorldFest 2014” theme, this summer’s series includes performances representing nations and regions from around the world including Italy, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Korea…to name a few. See the full schedule online at www.untermyer.org.

In addition to its popular free summer performance series at Untermyer Park, a new program entitled “UPAC on the Road” was recently launched, with support from Arts Westchester to reach new communities and partner with a variety of neighborhoods, businesses and community organizations.

Now celebrating its 39th year, UPAC continues to grow and seek new ways to serve the residents of Yonkers and the surrounding region. The motto of the Untermyer Performing Arts Council can be summed up with three “E’s”…enlighten, educate and entertain.
