New Rochelle Public Library Kicks Off Summer Reading Program

School may be out for the summer, but according to New Rochelle Public Library, this doesn’t mean that the learning needs to end just yet. On June 23, the library will celebrate the kick-off of its annual summer reading program with an outdoor event. Tents in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green will offer activities such as rock painting and other crafts, and a performance by Shinbone Alley Stilt Band. Band members, while on stilts, perform lifts and turns, dance, and play swinging jazz music. As these festivities take place, children in grades Pre-K through five, are encouraged to register for the summer reading program inside the Library. These children will receive a logbook to track their reading progress throughout the summer for the chance to win prizes. Through the program and its theme, Libraries Rock!, children will receive encouragement, as well as the access to books, which will help them to continue with their education throughout the summer months.
