Youth Summer Writers’ Camp

Are you a dedicated creative writer looking for specialized instruction and a peer group? This upper-level workshop hones in on craft elements of writing, such as fiction, creative nonfiction, playwriting, screenwriting, and poetry. Students will gain comfortability in sharing their writing, either through submission opportunities or live readings. Through group conversation, writing prompts, and instruction on revision and editing, students will leave the workshop with a portfolio of writing they can be proud of.

Courses are available for students in grades 3-5 and 6-8! Peruse our website to see which class your child may be interested in.

In-person classes will get outside for a bit to be inspired by nature and experience the poetry in the pavement, and walk along the water in Philipse Manor.

Class will meet for 6 Wednesdays between July 13 and August 17 from 4-7pm IN PERSON AT HVWC. HVWC is located at 300 Riverside Drive (Philipse Manor RR station) in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

Instructor Misty Yarnall received her BFA in Creative Writing from Purchase College. Her work can be found in a handful of literary magazines, including Prime Number Magazine, The Roadrunner Review, KAIROS Literary Magazine, and The Merrimack Review.
