Words Into Music Premiere

Premiere of Words Into Music by Pamela Sklar

Saturday, June 13th, 2:00 PM: St Paul’s Church National Historic Site in Mount Vernon will host the premiere performance of Words into Music, an award-winning music project by flutist & composer Pamela Sklar. Awarded an ArtsWestchester Arts Initiative grant, Ms. Sklar created Words into Music with input from Mount Vernon community members. After conducting personal individual talks with community members, Pamela Sklar took their words and turned them into music. The music will be performed by Ms. Sklar playing flute, bass flute and Native American flute, with co-featured colleagues John Frisch playing oboe, English horn, alto sax, and Enid Blount Press, clarinet and bass clarinet. The performance will include educational components about Pamela’s experience creating Words into Music and descriptions/ demonstrations of the eight different instruments being played.

The interviews were given to more than 40 people, ages 14 to 89, from the Mount Vernon community. The musicians play many styles of music and have appeared internationally. Pamela Sklar has performed and recorded with many well-known artists including Lady Gaga, and Aretha Franklin at the GRAMMY Awards. pamelasklar.com
