Westchester Writers Wanted for THE WRITE STUFF: Honoring Westchester’s Legends & Legacies

Tutti Bravi Productions, Inc., in collaboration with the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, is looking for authors with the “write stuff”. Westchester writers are being asked to submit their works about a Westchester person, place or event, to be produced as a theatrical piece by Tutti Bravi. Manuscripts of plays, musicals, operas, poetry collections or essays which adhere to the guidelines, should be submitted digitally by May 31, 2019. Up to three semi-finalists will be selected from the entries, then interviewed for further insights into their submitted pieces, and to discuss a collaborative production process. Semi-finalists will be awarded an honorarium of $300 each. The winning selection will be produced by Tutti Bravi Productions in two stages, first as a staged reading in fall, 2019 and then as a full production in 2020.

All entrants must be Westchester residents. Entries may be in the form of stage plays, operas, musicals, poetry collections or essay collections. The subject of the piece must have a Westchester connection, involving either a former or current resident (e.g. Norman Rockwell, Thomas Paine, Madame Walker, etc.), or someone who has created something that is identified with Westchester (e.g. Walter Lantz – Woody Woodpecker;  Washington Irving – The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, etc.) or a Westchester location or building – including sites that no longer exist —  that has some significance (e.g. John Jay Homestead, site of Battle of White Plains, etc.)  No previous publishing experience is required: Anyone who enjoys writing and has an interesting topic that fits the geographical guidelines is eligible. Submissions need not be completely finished products, as long as there is enough of the framework so that the project can be viewed as a whole. Further collaborative work will evolve as the piece is being prepared for presentation. The submission deadline is midnight on May 31, 2019, and all entries must be submitted electronically to tuttibraviproductions@gmail.com. Entries must include the author’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address, plus a short bio.

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts was created by the New Rochelle City Council in 1975 to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts; for more than 40 years NRCA has worked to fulfill that mission by sponsoring art exhibitions, theatrical productions, dance recitals, film screenings, lectures, and concert series. In addition, NRCA has sponsored public art and created ArtsFest, while helping to build relationships between the arts, the business community and city government. NRCA’s programs are made possible, in part, by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County Government, the City of New Rochelle, and the support and participation of NRCA’s membership.
