7:30  p.m.    Saturday, August  4th  2018  at  Historic  Untermyer  Park

The  Untermyer  Performing  Arts  Council  is  presenting  Passion  for  Dance on Saturday,  August  4th  at  7:30  p.m.  at  Untermyer  Park.

Thalia  Spanish  Theatre  in  collaboration  with  Mestizo  Art  Center  and  the  Untermeyer  Performing  Arts  Council  will present  Passion  for  Dance, a celebration of expressive,  dynamic,  and  passionate  dance  styles  including  Ballet,  Salsa,  Hip-Hop  and  Jazz.

THALIA  SPANISH  THEATRE  is  the  only  bilingual  Hispanic  theatre  in  Queens,  NY,  serving  a  community  of  more  than  one  million  Hispanics  from  every  Spanish-speaking  nation  in  the  world.    For  40  years  our  mission  has  been  to  celebrate  the  vibrancy  and  diversity  of  Spanish  and  Latin  American  culture  and  heritage  with  unique  productions  of  theatre,  music  and  dance.    Their  more  than  215  productions  have  been  acclaimed  by  audiences  and critics,  receiving  207  awards  for  artistic  excellence,  including  many  from  ACE  (Association  of  Critics  of  Entertainment),  HOLA  (Hispanic  Organization  of  Latin  Actors)  and  ATI  (Artistas  de  Teatro  Independiente).    They  also  received  the  1997  and  1989  ENCORE  Awards  of  the  Arts  &  Business  Council,  the 1997  NEW  YORK  STATE  GOVERNOR’S  ARTS  AWARD,  and  the  2009  MAYOR’S  AWARD  FOR  ARTS  &  CULTURE.    In  2007  their  musical  production  of Maestro  Raul  Jaurena’s  TE  AMO  TANGO,  recorded  live  at  the  theatre  and  released  on  CD,  won  the  LATIN  GRAMMY  for  BEST  TANGO  ALBUM.    THALIA  is  under  the  leadership  of  the  prestigious  Spanish  Director/Writer/Producer  Angel  Gil Orrios;  every  season  they  produce  Spanish,  Latin  American  &  Hispanic  plays  with  bilingual  casts,  alternating  performances  in  English  and  Spanish,  musicals,  dance  programs,  workshops  for  children  &  youth,  and  the  annual  free   THALIA  OUTDOOR  FESTIVAL  in  their  local  park.

The MESTIZO  Art  Center  is  based  in  Jackson  Heights,  Queens,  and  brings together  a   diverse  community  of  young  people  through  dance  education  and  performance.  The  organization  believes  that  dance  provides  a  forum  for  meaningful,  positive  exchange  between  kids  of  all  backgrounds  and  cultures.  Since its  inception  in  1999  by  Harold  Puente,  Artistic/Executive  Director,  the  dance  company  has  created  programs  that  are  challenging  and  artistically  substantial,  and  that  address  young  people’s  needs  for  individual  achievement  and  group  identity.  Its  pre-professional  dance  education  and performance  training  programs  offer  young  people  a  rare  combination  of  high-level  artistic  integrity,  educational  rigor,  and  nurturing  support.  MESTIZO  Art  Center exposes  students  to  various  techniques  and  styles  within  a  genre  in  order  to  develop  the  versatility  required  of  professional  dancers.  They  ingrain  a  sophisticated  knowledge of  dance  history  by exposing  students  to  a  wide  spectrum  of  dance  artists  at  various  stages  in  their  careers.  This  creates  a  nurturing  and  challenging  environment  for  every  child  and  teen  that  demonstrates  a  strong  inclination  to  develop  his  or  her  technique  and  performance  skills.

This definitely is another “don’t miss” Untermyer Performing Arts Council World Fest evening under the stars!
