Bronxville/Yonkers, NY – In celebration of Gay Pride Month, fifteen talented writers will read five-minute stories on the theme “From A to LGBTQ” as the hit reading series “650” returns to Sarah Lawrence College on Sunday, June 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A catered reception for guests and writers will follow.
The 650 reading series is a high-caliber event that has been presented over the past three years in the New York metropolitan area and Hudson River Valley. Its previous themes have ranged from “My First Time” to “The Sound of Music,” topics that have sparked recollections of a child’s first haircut, a divorcee’s first Match.com date, and the impression a Marine drill instructor made on a young recruit.
“The breadth and quality of the work we showcase are exceptional,” said founder and editor Edward McCann. “It doesn’t matter whether the pieces come from first-timers or bestsellers – we simply feature good writing.”
“We’re proud to be a 650 presenting partner,” said Pat Dunn, director of The Writing Institute of Sarah Lawrence College, the event’s sponsor. “It’s exciting to host this show on our campus, and to offer something to our community and to our students they won’t find elsewhere.”
McCann, who lives outside New Paltz, began his career as an award-winning local television writer and has produced video for the Culinary Institute of America and for the Lifetime and Discovery networks.
In addition to writers traveling from New York City, California, and North Carolina, the event will feature local writers Blythe Hamer and Angela Derecas Taylor of New Rochelle, John Gredler of Tuckahoe, Veera Hiranandani of Hastings-on-Hudson, Jean Huff of Scarsdale, Elisa Milkes of Bedford, and John Mitchell Morris of Bronxville.
