Taconic Opera, celebrating its 26th Season, is opening its 2022-23 season with a full production of its first opera from the German repertoire: Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. There are three very good reasons not to miss this opportunity: Strauss’ score is gorgeous; German operas are not all 3+hours long; and, it’s very funny! Ariadne will be performed in German with English supertitles above the stage to further enhance the entire experience.
The production will be fully staged with professional, experienced lead singers and orchestra, and Maestro Jun Nakabayashi looks forward to providing the downbeat. Generous donations have made it possible to offer some visual delights as well.
The story: a theater manages to book two different music groups to perform on the same day and during the same hours. The problem: one group is doing a serious dramatic opera and the other is performing the equivalent of a Broadway comedy. The results: pure fun intermixed with some very thoughtful moments.
