Summer at Steffi Nossen is a great time to keep dance skills sharp, work on new techniques and explore artistic goals. Programs combine creative intensity and artistic expression in a comfortable atmosphere. Use the summer months to keep skills sharp, work on new techniques and explore artistic goals.

The summer starts with Story Book Camp, a morning of movement, music and art.  5 one-week camps, each focused on a different children’s story, will begin June 12 and conclude on July 21st.  Each Friday we will showcase what youngsters have learned throughout the week.

Dance Camp will take place on July 10 – 21; dancers in grades 1 – 5 will enjoy technique classes in Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Musical Theater. They will also learn composition – choreographing their own dances in small groups and building communication skills and self-assurance, and learn dance history.  On Friday July 21st the program will culminate in a showing of all they have learned.

Our expanded MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVE for grades 5 – 8 will take place July 24 – August 4th. It targets both the musical theater actor/singer who needs more intensive dance training and the dancer who would like to explore singing and acting. Broadway professionals will lead group voice lessons, acting classes and musical theater dance techniques will lead to a choreographed performance at week’s end. Faculty includes Tanya Birl, who recently appeared in the Broadway production of “On the Town”; Barbara Angeline seen in Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectaculars and many equity shows including The Wizard of Oz. Oliver, On the Town, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Carnival, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, holds an M.A. in Dance Education (New York University) and a B.A. in Dance (UC Irvine) and is on the Dance faculty at Rutgers, and Jessi Mullins teaching voice.

Summer Dance Intensives I (Grades 5 – 8) II (grades 7 – 12 with dance experience) is an opportunity for dancers who want total immersion and rapid technical advancement. Students will take daily classes in Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Music Theater as well as experiences in Composition, Dance History, and Body Conditioning.

The week of June 19 – 26 will bring the 14th year of our a six-day MOVING WHEELS & HEELS ADAPTIVE DANCE INTENSIVE. Master teachers Barbara and Sabatino Verlezza and Nancy Lushington lead this intensive, one-week adaptive dance experience for students, teachers, and college interns with/without disabilities. The program includes technique classes, composition and repertory experiences. It stems from Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation’s founding belief that dance is for everyone! Join us for this opportunity to improve technique and range of motion, explore and express creativity, and enjoy a collaborative artistic experience with a diverse group of dancers. Families and friends are invited to a concluding showing and reception on Saturday, June 24th at 3:00. Suitable for ages 16 and up.

June 26 – 29th , the Verlezzas will lead children in an ADAPTIVE DANCE CAMP FOR CHILDREN. This four-day morning dance program is tailored so that all children can successfully participate in dance classes, creative movement, and related arts experiences. A sharing with family and friends will take place on Thursday at noon.

Early and late extended day options are available. Register by June 15 and receive a 10% discount
