For immediate release (Cold Spring, NY   June 2017)

This June Arts 10566 will have a performance of an original play, Saved By a Child, written by Amos Smith, at the Hudson Valley Paramount Theater in Peekskill.  The play is a musical in which 150 kids enrolled in Arts 10566 will dance, sing, recite their poetry, perform the roles and for which they have created the scenery and set designs.

Arts 10566 is a non-profit after school arts enrichment program that operates in places popular with youths in order to be more engaging.  All programs are free and serve as a way to create a community of diverse ethnic, religious and linguistic backgrounds.  The organization serves to facilitate collaborations and bring together many diverse organizations such as faith based organizations, business and art communities, political leaders, civic organizations, community based organizations, health services and the community at large.  Some of its collaborative partners are the Peekskill Youth Bureau, Park St A.M.E. Baptize Church, Oakside Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Peekskill High School and the Kiley Youth Center.  It is an outlet where all these groups come together and work in collaboration and support of their youths and Arts 10566.

At the end of each year, Arts 10566 produces a performance that all the enrolled kids can perform in.  For some kids, it is their first time going to a theater and participating in a play.  The program creates an environment where all are equal and celebrated through creativity.  This theme of this year’s play is learning that differences are not all that different and learning about how we can put aside our pre-disposed beliefs and celebrate each other in harmony.

Arts 10566 works with Peekskill High School to choose 20 youth to participate in the Tech Crew in Training Program in partnership with Hudson Valley Paramount Theater.  The 20 youths are trained by the Paramount in Audio & Lighting for the theater, which we hope will give the kids valuable skills.  Retired scenic art teacher, Thom Johnson, worked with 10 kids to design the sets for the play as well as constructing and painting the movable sets.  In addition to these youths, there are also Peekskill Alumni who return as peers in the program.

Saved By a Child performance is June 8th, 7 pm, at the Hudson Valley Paramount Theater in Peekskill, NY.  The performance is free to the public, but any donations are happily accepted to support the program.  For more information call 914-734-5040 or visit www.arts10566.org.
