The Untermyer Performing Arts Council will present Samba New York at 7 pm on July 17th at Untermyer Park. Untermyer Park is located at 945 North Broadway, Yonkers.
Samba New York! is a world-renowned samba performance company dedicated to entertaining, educating, and uplifting people of all backgrounds with the exhilarating music and dance of Brazil.
Rooted in such styles as Carnaval samba, pagode, bossa nova, and capoeira, Samba New York! uses its unique cosmopolitan sensibility to bring the samba and other traditional Brazilian art forms into new and unexpected places.
Samba New York! has been called upon to represent Brazil for some of the world’s most prestigious companies and events — including ESPN’s 2014 Upfront at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater; Google’s 2017 YouTube Brandcast event alongside superstar Katy Perry; Peter Gabriel’s WITNESS Gala; Central Park SummerStage; and the 2017 New York Salsa Festival at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for over 25,000 fans. The company has been featured on such mass media as the Today Show, Good Day New York, CBS Early Show, the Dr. Oz Show, and TV Globo’s Jornal Nacional, Brazil’s most widely viewed nightly news program. The Untermyer Performing Arts Council (UPAC) is an all volunteer organization devoted to sponsoring musical concerts, dance performances, art exhibitions, cultural festivals and much more. These admission free performances are held at beautiful Untermyer Park, the crown jewel of the Yonkers\’ park system, which overlooks the Hudson River and Palisades. UPAC has a commitment to promote programs representative of the variety of cultures and ethnic groups represented in the City of Yonkers and Westchester County. The Untermyer Performing Arts Council (UPAC) was formed in 1976 to promote the appreciation of the performing arts in Yonkers and beyond. UPAC’s mission was to foster and sponsor performing arts events at the historic Untermyer Park and other venues in Yonkers. UPAC is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that relies on public grants and private donations. To ensure accessibility and welcome the broadest public audience, all UPAC events are free and open to everyone.
In keeping with UPAC’s “WorldFest 2014” theme, this summer’s series includes performances representing nations and regions from around the world including Italy, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Korea…to name a few. See the full schedule online at www.untermyer.org.
In addition to its popular free summer performance series at Untermyer Park, a new program entitled “UPAC on the Road” was recently launched, with support from Arts Westchester to reach new communities and partner with a variety of neighborhoods, businesses and community organizations.
Now celebrating its 39th year, UPAC continues to grow and seek new ways to serve the residents of Yonkers and the surrounding region. The motto of the Untermyer Performing Arts Council can be summed up with three “E’s”…enlighten, educate and entertain.
