“Romeo & Juliet” Outdoor Shakespeare at Turnure Park Presented by the City of White Plains & ArtsWestchester: Performance on July 13

White Plains, NY – It has fast become a White Plains summertime tradition: Shakespeare in the Park! Back for its fourth year, Shakespeare in the Park’s community following has grown tremendously with each performance.

The City of White Plains and ArtsWestchester have come together once again to bring one of Shakespeare’s most renowned plays, Romeo & Juliet, to our residents. This year’s performance will be Thursday, July 13th at Turnure Park (Lake Street). The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This production is free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the play will be moved indoors to Eastview Middle School at 350 Main Street.

All are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and settle in to enjoy this classic tragedy of two star-crossed lovers. Refreshments  will be available for sale during the event.

“We are so pleased to be able to continue to offer this family-friendly event to our residents with the amazing organization ArtsWestchester,” said Mayor Roach. “This year, we have partnered with Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, whose reputation for world class Shakespeare productions is well known. Events such as this add to the draw of White Plains as a community and create an interest in the City that extends beyond our borders.”

Janet Langsam, CEO of ArtsWestchester added, “The summer season brings with it hundreds of free and affordable arts events for families to enjoy throughout Westchester County. Shakespeare at Turnure Park offers White Plains residents and visitors the chance to watch the tragic lovers Romeo and Juliet and the dysfunctional Montague family. It’s more fun than House of Cards.”

This event has been made possible in part by our primary sponsor ArtsWestchester. Additional sponsors of Shakespeare in the Park include: Peckham Industries, Webster Bank and the White Plains Public Library Foundation.

About Romeo & Juliet – William Shakespeare’s timeless romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, features two young star-crossed lovers who come from families with a long history of animosity toward each other. The feud between the Montagues and the Capulets not only disrupts the city of Verona where the play takes place, but also prevents Romeo and Juliet from being together. Throughout the play, revenge, love, and a secret marriage cause tragic results for the young couple and their families.
