The Alliance Française of Westchester Holds Timely Lecture on Rebuilding Notre Dame Cathedral One Year Later
For Immediate Release
January February 5, 2020
White Plains, NY – Nearly one year after a fire ravaged the landmark Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Alliance Française in White Plains is generating awareness for its rebuild with a not to be missed lecture on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m., featuring acclaimed professor of medieval literature at Yale University, Professor Howard Bloch.
Professor Bloch, a Sterling Professor of French at Yale, is recognized nationally and internationally as a specialist of medieval literature. He has published a number of books and is presently working on one related to cathedrals in and around Paris.
The 45-minute lecture will feature a discussion on the rebuilding of the revered cathedral and bring to light the challenges involved in bringing back to its former glory an eight hundred and fifty year-old medieval cathedral. In April 2019, Parisians and people around the world watched in horror as the fire devastated the iconic spire of their beloved cathedral, and millions wondered how this could have happened and more importantly how to rebuild? The historical event and this question have galvanized action in France and around the world and many have sought plans to rebuild this national treasure. Professor Bloch will address these issues and share his insight and expertise.
At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Bloch will entertain questions from the audience.
Tickets for the lecture are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and can be had by visiting the Alliance Française website at https://afwestchesterny.org.
