I wasn't born artistic, I wasn't raised surrounded by color, paints, crayons or creative people. Instead my mother raised me with puzzles and board games that would develop my intellect. At 13 while applying to High School in NYC and speaking very little english, a pair of coveralls on a coqui got me into the High School of Fashion Industries. Even with a high GPA I didn't get into any other high school, so I found myself face to face with the side of me I didn't know existed. I majored in Fashion Design, and it wasn't until my senior year when I actually was able to put down the sewing machine and pick up a sketchbook. Still then I didn't see it as a calling.
I fought it for years, the artistic side of me I mean. In college I started as Business Administration Student, but eventually finished right back in the art department with a degree in Computer Graphics and Imaging. In between all that I joined the Army, deployed to Afghanistan, dealt with many challenges and once again art rescued me from the anxiety episodes, the depression and detachment from reality. Color, a brush and canvas have become my savior and so was born my love for painting, creating, and photography along the way. I allowed myself and surrounded myself with the one things that makes me feel safe.
