Artist Statement

Oren Neiman was born in Israel, and raised in Israel, as well as Toronto, Canada. He started playing guitar again at age 13, after a short first attempt at age 6 and has been playing ever since. In August 2001, Oren moved to NY, and got his BFA from SUNY Purchase. During his school years, Oren was studying and playing with people such as John Abercrombie, Jon Faddis, Pete Malinverni, and Charles Blenzig.  After completing his degree, he immediately started playing in local clubs in Westchester, as well as in New York City. The main projects he is currently involved in include: Leading his own quartet that plays original music and performs extensively in the NYC area, The Jericho project, a large ensemble, consisting of 9 musicians that plays music Oren composed based on various biblical themes that is also performing as part of an educational program, Duo Shmuo a guitar duo with Gilad Ben-Zvi, playing a mix of Israeli, eastern European , and original music in special arrangements for two guitars, and The Laws of Motion - a play that is currently being written by Robin Goldfin, for which Oren is composing the music. Oren was also an Artist in Residence at the 92nd St. Y, in NY. Oren performs regularly in various venues in the city such as The 55bar, Detour, Joe's Pub and more. He has also participated in tours throughout the east and Canada (as guitar player for The Abigail Payne Band), as well as extensive performing in Israel. In January 2006, Oren released his first recording as a leader entitled First of all. The album was released on the Wizard Records label, and is a quartet recording that includes eight of Oren's original compositions. The CD has been hailed as an album that has a warm/mysterious atmosphere, and yet conveys a sense of serenity, and The album is well structured and takes you on a journey throughout its own little world. Oren is also currently in the process of working on his Second album as a leader.
