Artist Statement

Meret has extensive experience teaching and mentoring children in creating art. Since 1997 she has been leading classes in clay, sewing, painting, mask making and more. She leads workshops in Westchester, New York, and previously was the art teacher at the International Schools of Venice and Treviso, Italy. Currently, Meret works a teaching artist for extension programs during and after school. She also offers supplementary art lessons and workshops, and does birthday parties as well. In 2011, Meret along with k-5th grades installed a bird bath and tiles made of clay, at Park Avenue School's garden in Port Chester. 2011 also marked the first year of Native American Dance and culture taught in all 4th grades in Port Chester Public Schools. This  8 week curriculum complemented the NY state requirement for history. Students learned a dance, made ghost dance shirts, amulets and pouches. Testimonials Rachel (student, 9) says: "Sewing club was so much fun! I really really loved making all of the projects! I can't decide if the pumpkin or the purse was my favorite because I loved them both so much. My friends and I learned so much and we had so much fun ... we wish we could keep sewing to make more cool things!" Jennifer (mom) says: "Meret's sewing club was an immediate favorite! Her artistic talent as well as her warm and friendly nature provided an atmosphere swirling with creativity and fun!"
