Artist Statement
People often ask artists where they get their ideas or inspiration and why and how they choose to express those particular concepts. Some artists work from the outside in (i.e. looking at a model), others work from the inside out (i.e. from imagination). My muse almost always comes from the inside out. I hope the viewer of my sculpture could be from anywhere on the globe or at any period of time will relate and understand the universal themes I am trying to present. Despite the incredible harshness and difficulties of the human experience I am drawn to the joyous side of life; to everyday and yet common experiences of people. Throughout the ages from the “Venus of Willendorf,” Peter Paul Ruebens, Gaston Lachaise, Eli Nadelman, Ferdinand Botero and others I am drawn to the full bodied forms yet graceful exact detail are purposefully left out so the viewer can fill in those details or relate him or herself to the work. I hope my sculptures move you through space and time and bring you pleasure.
