Artist Statement

Artist Statement My paintings are inspired by nature: its energy, its rhythms, and its coloration. The abstract imagery is tied to places remembered or imagined. The process starts with a visual connection to the landscape, but at some point the painting takes on a life of its own and the creative impulse is reflected in the color, the paint handling, and the markings. My work results from dialogue with nature that is intuitive and free. Reviews "They're very powerful paintings," Britt said. "This is a crucial part of American art today." Sandye Voight, Telegraph Herald, May 16, 2002 "The New Expressionists" [Nelson Britt, Director Dubuque Museum of Art] "Linda Nisselson's offerings indicate the experience of existing in complex space. Her selections reveal an ability to play off lights and darks, searching with deep space hinted at." William Zimmer, New York Times, November 27, 1994 "Abstract Expressionism Is Alive and Well"
