Karen Sevell Greenbaum
I am a lifelong mixed media artist. Through the '70's and '80's my graphic design firm, Whimsical Walls, Ltd. specialized in custom murals for children and adults. My partner and I designed three nationally successful collections of wallpaper, border and fabric books, followed by a series of coordinating products, under the trademark of Whimsical Wares. My recent body of work explores imagery within the sacred circle/mandala. Working within the circle provides a visual experience of creating spontaneously in a structure and with a focus. From our earliest memories the circle is something familiar to all of us, and in many cultures it represents healing, and connates feelings of comfort, wholeness and protection. My DIMENSIONAL PORTRAITS: family heirloom assemblages combining photographic portraits, symbols, collage, and the written word are exhibited throughout the New York metropolitan area. Using the photographs as the catalyst and focal point for the work, family roots are expressed in these mixed media compositions. DIMENSIONAL PORTRAITS developed out of a strong desire to delve into cultural heritage and family histories and to translate the stories visually. I work on commission as my pieces for clients are personal and one-of-a-kind. Consultations by appointment. Commission fees vary.
I have an Associate Degree in graphic design from Parsons School of Design and a B.S. Degree from New York University.
