Artist Statement

Artist Statement: I was born in 1949 in New York and lived in Queens with parents who loved the arts. My father was an Art Director at Young & Rubicam.  Many hours were spent in Greenwich Village and the many museums and parks in New York City and the suburbs.  Summers explored Long Island and surrounding waters.  The appreciation for the sky, the flowers and the sea grew. Arts and crafts were encouraged, but not a career in the uncertain world of art.  I chose instead to develop my other passion; helping people in need.   After achieving an RN degree and then Masters in adult health working in critical care, I completed Medical School at Mt. Sinai in NYC in 1978.  I became board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology and am partner in a large specialty practice, Cardiology Consultants of Westchester.  Now in my 50's, I have rekindled this interest in art and photography with an enlightened vision. My skills at imaging the heart are transferred to the study of nature's intimate places.  The magic of flowers and of color in nature, the sea and its coastline with its suppressed violence, intrigue me.  The range of light in Black & White, both simplify and enhance how I view the world.   Share this vision beneath the sun and moon with me.  My husband, Roger E. Salisbury, PSA, joins this quest with me and has a dual career of plastic reconstruction surgery as chief at Westchester Medical Center directing the Burn Unit as well as being a master pastelist.   Business Address: 5 Meeting House Lane, Rye Brook, NY  10573;    914 690-2724, Fax 914 690-9769, Cell 914 469-6983 Studio: 45 Eastern Point Road, Gloucester, MA  01930;    978 283-6856, Fax 978 282-0977 www.jmonteferrante.com;   info@jmonteferrante.com   Solo or Dual Shows: Sovereign Bank in Gloucester, MA.
