Artist Statement

Jessica DiMauro graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a BFA in Dance in 2001.  She has performed works by choreographers such as Martha Graham, Geoffrey Holder, Milton Myers, Kevin Wynn, Michael Foley, Pauline Koner and Merle Holloman.  Jessica and her five dancers have been performing together for over five years.  Her work is characterized by itâ??s fiery athleticism and expressive use of gesture.  Jessica strives to create an eclectic style of movement by fusing raw emotion with diverse dance styles and techniques .  Jessicaâ??s choreography has been seen at venues throughout New York City and Westchester County including The Abrons Arts Center at Henry Street Settlement, The Producersâ?? Club Theaters, Steps on Broadway, The Theresa Lang Theater, the Dance Theater Lab at Purchase College, The Kraine Theater, Marymount Manhattan College, Peridance Center, The Music Conservatory of Westchester, The Arts Exchange and The Irvington Town Hall Theater.  Ms. DiMauro was given an Arts Alive Artist Grant for the year 2007 from The Westchester Arts Council.  In the fall of 2007, Jessica will return to set a second work on the students of the dance department at Montclair State University.  She was also recently commissioned by The Dance in Education Fund to choreograph for The Steffi Nossen Dance Company.  Ms. DiMauro produced Confetti: A Collection of Works by Jessica DiMauro at The Producersâ?? Club Theaters and her choreography was also seen at the 2004 International NYC Fringe Festival in Granola! The Musical at The Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts.  William Stevenson of Broadway.com describes Jessica as â??a promising young talent,â?? and her choreography for Granola! as â??often hilariousâ?? and â??amusing.â??.  Ms. DiMauro brings her considerable background in movement to her work as a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor at Dutchess Community College.
