Artist Statement

Life is irrational. Only in art do we expect things to make sense. Painting is a place and time. It's a state of being, a process and a product. It's what I see, things I know; how they are with me; how I am today; here and now colored by everything from before. I take note. For the past ten years the light on the Hudson River has been the focus of my paintings. I am beginning to discover "light events" - prismatic shifts moving through fields of light - which are slowly emerging in my current work. Drawing is essential to my evolving form language. Regular figure drawing is often the basis for collage work. I do a lot of black and white images with Chinese brushes and inks.
