Artist Statement

Beth DeWit  

An artist of diverse experience and primarily self taught, Beth acquired much of her skills while working as a decorative painter. She has made her living in arts-related fields for most of her adult life. Her experience includes Professional Decorative Painting and Murals, Illustration, Photography, Computer Graphics, Jewelry and Sign Design.

Beth holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Iowa. She has more recently studied with local artists David Fox, Andrew Lattimore and jeweler Jennifer Rutheny. 

Beth exhibits her works at the Peekskill Open Studios. She has exhibited at ArtsWestchester Gallery in White Plains, NY. Her Decorative Painting has been seen in residential and commercial locations around the Northeastern and Northwestern US.  She has exhibited photography in the Northern Westchester Photography Exhibit and Peekskill Open Studios, shown her jewelry at Rutheny’s Gallery in Croton On Hudson, NY and the Flatiron Gallery in Peekskill, NY and craft venues in the Hudson Valley. She was a founding member of the Hudson Crafts Collective.

Beth lives and paints in Peekskill with her musician partner, Tony Jefferson. She teaches Vinyasa, Gentle and Restorative yoga and offers private instruction.

Educational Background

BA in English Literature, University of Iowa. Hudson Valley Artist, Beth DeWit lives and works in the New York metro area. She is primarily self-taught and is an artist of diverse experience. Many of her skills were acquired while working as an apprentice in various studios and later, for herself, as a professional Decorative Painter. She has made her living in arts-related fields for most of her adult life. Her experience includes Decorative Painting and Murals, Illustration, Photography, Computer Graphics, Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing.
