Dorothy Lorenze

Using pure, fresh color, painting in a contemporary realist style, my painting focus on the interplay of light, texture and form to describe favorite antiques and ordinary objects. Throughout a successful career as a graphic designer I have nurtured my love of fine art by studying figure drawing, portraiture, pastel and oil painting as well as trompe l'oeil and faux finish techniques. I enjoy merging the graphic elements of composition and design with the intricacies of fine art to create accurate, intriguing, representations of ordinary objects from our daily lives - tea and china, glass and sliver, fruits and sweets. Still life offers a great variety of subjects and I love the challenge of rendering translucency, reflection and texture. Observation becomes exploration leading to surprising discoveries, like the lavender glow in an indigo shadow of a green pear on a blue glass plate - amazing!!
