Katonah Classic Stage Presents, “DINNER WITH FRIENDS.” (Live reading)

KCS Presents Pulitzer Prize winner, Dinner with Friends;

a Benefit Reading at The Bedford Hills Community House

Katonah, NY – Katonah Classic Stage (KCS), Westchester County’s nonprofit, professional theatre company dedicated to classic plays, will present Donald Margulies’s comedy-drama, Dinner with Friends, on April 2, 2022, at 7 PM, at Bedford Hills Community House. The benefit reading will feature Broadway, television, and film veterans Christa Scott-Reed, Kelly McAndrew, Alvin Keith, and R.Ward Duffy, and will be directed by KCS Artistic Director Trent Dawson.

This benefit is the final installment of KCS’s three-part series of readings, including their sold-out reading of “Art” at Katonah’s Oak & Oil Gallery in February, and a rousing rendition of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf in December, which resulted in a standing ovation and a clamor for what’s next.  Of the readings, KCS Executive Director Sharron Kearney says, “We initially weren’t sure if audiences would show up for readings as opposed to full-scale productions, but we have been pleasantly surprised that they not only show up, they keep asking for more!” The proceeds of this benefit will go towards their Main Stage production of  the classic comedy, Private Lives, this Fall.

This time around, KCS is hoping to expand their audience by encouraging long-term supporters to bring new “friends” to Margulies’s comedic drama about two couples who go through life’s trials and tribulations together; for better or worse. The New York Times called Dinner, “…wry and keenly observed and bathed in the unspoken sorrow that can sneak up on you in middle age. It is about the vulnerability everyone experiences as the shadow of time grows longer and the limits of one’s choices are more clearly defined…{and}…the package Margulies wraps this in has its funny side, too.” Artistic Director Trent Dawson hopes to move audiences with Dinner, saying, “One of the many things I love about this play is that is takes a relatively standard plot and upends it—somehow making the story simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking.”

Tickets are available at www.katonahclassicstage/dinner. The reading is expected to run approximately 2 hours (including one intermission), and, for added safety, seating capacity is limited and attendees will have to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination. There will be complimentary light refreshments as well as wine and beer offered for sale.
