Yowana Sari Gamelan: Music and Dance from Bali
The richly layered and textured sound of magnificent golden instruments from Bali will fill the Ossie Davis Theater when the Yowana Sari Balinese Gamelan performs traditional and nontraditional pieces. The ensemble, under the direction of Professor Michael Lipsey of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, performs on gongs, metallophones and drums and other gorgeous instruments crafted by I Pande Sukarta in Bali. The tradition of the gamelan ensemble is a world renowned cultural treasure, and its influences can be heard in music of some of the most vibrant artists of our time. Noopur Singha is the featured dancer for this performance. Ossie Davis Theater. Suggested donation: $2.00.
