Writing for the Fun of It! (Grades 5 – 6 via Zoom) with Tina Tocco

Do you love to write? Would you like to dive into a bunch of fun writing exercises this spring, plus hang out with other kids who love writing just as much as you?

In this five-week workshop, we’ll do the fun stuff. Be ready to have your brain fired up with a different prompt each week for some in-class writing. Then, you can share your work (only if you want — this isn’t school!). But if you do share, you’ll hear some great stuff because this is a positive feedback workshop. We’ll only focus on the best parts of your writing — not the stuff you wish you’d done better. We’ll also talk about favorite books, characters, podcasts, and more. This is the place where you can write from your heart and live in a world of words. Surrounded by words and writers? Is there any better way to spend your time?

Tina Tocco is a Pushcart Prize nominee. A writer for both adults and young readers, Tina’s work has appeared in many publications, including Highlights, Cricket, Humpty Dumpty, Turtle, Crab Creek Review, and Italian Americana. Her work has been featured in various anthologies, such as The Best Small Fictions 2019 and Best Nonfiction Food (2020), and will soon appear in the middle-grade ghost story anthology Haunted States of America (Macmillan Publishing Group). Tina earned her MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College, where she was editor-in-chief of Inkwell, the college’s national literary journal. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She teaches for Kids Short Story Connection (Greenburgh), Arts Escape (Connecticut), GrubStreet (Massachusetts), Hugo House (Washington), and other organizations.

This workshop will be taught via Zoom for students currently in grades 5-6. The Zoom link will be emailed at the time of registration. (Please check spam / promotions filters.) Please email admin@writerscenter.org with any questions.
