Writing by Design

“The science of design is the source and essence of painting, sculpture, architecture. Sometimes it seems to me that all works of the human brain and hand are either design itself or a branch of that art.”
– Michelangelo

As fiction writers, we have many tools at our disposal, not the least of which is design. In this workshop, we will apply the principles of good design to our work in order to create art that is rich, satisfying and aims for greatness. These principles include functionality and form, continuity, control, elegance and personality. No drawing required — but come prepared to discuss and share your work-in-progress and the exercises we will do in class.

6 Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00 p.m., 10/01/2014–11/05/2014
