Workshop for High School Students with Leah Umansky via Zoom

The truth is that all artists steal. Students will steal their inspiration from many sources to create poems of their owns. These sources could be a newspaper, a favorite book, a television show or movie, or even dialogue overheard on a walk or at a store. You never know when inspiration will strike you and that is part of the excitement of poetry. Poetry is fun, though many might not tell you that. Our poetry assignments will range from free-verse assignments, to possible formal assignments, but always the trick is going wherever your assignment takes you to write the poem you want to write. This workshop will take place on zoom and weekly prompts and short reading materials will be provided for you. Each week, for four weeks, students will workshop their poems on screen and, together, we will form a small writing community that uplifts each other’s voices and moreover, have fun with poetry! Anyone interested in writing poetry, including prose poems and flash fiction. All levels of experience are welcome.
This is a 4week class, taking place on Zoom. The Zoom link will be emailed at the time of registration (please check spam / promotions folder) and again on the day of class. Please write to ask@writerscenter.org with questions. Class will take place on July 12, 19, 26 and August 2 from 5-7pm EST.
Registration is $200 for this 4week series. Please register at:
