Who Am I Now: Owning the Role of Narrator in Creative Nonfiction with Susana Paola via Zoom

Whether you are writing a book-length memoir or a work of flash nonfiction, when you write creative nonfiction you become that magical being–both author of the story and actor within it. We will discuss how narrative presence is built through multiple, sometimes conflicting, voices. We’ll examine different ways of inhabiting your writing, artful use of second and third person in addition to the “I,” and more. Reading will include works by James Baldwin, Virginia Woolf, Ira Sukrungruang, Judith Kitchen, and Bernard Cooper. We’ll also do extensive writing together to explore the effect of different narrative choices.

Please note: This class will be taught on Zoom. The Altman Person of Color Scholarships and the need-based scholarships are free and given on a first come, first served basis—no more than one every other month. Please notify us right away if your plans change and you cannot attend the class. We will then reopen the slot so another student may register. Please refer to our Scholarships page before registering for Person of Color Scholarship or Need Based Scholarship. Thank you in advance for this consideration.

Tickets are $124. Please register at:
