White Plains Centennial Celebration – Flutist Mindy Kaufman, Pianist William Wolfram, with the Downtown Sinfonietta, Vincent Lionti, Conductor

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of White Plains, this concert pairs two White Plains natives who have achieved illustrious international careers in music, with Downtown Sinfonietta, our resident chamber symphony, featuring the musicians of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The Yamaha concert grand for this concert is provided courtesy of Faust Harrison Pianos, White Plains.

Solo piccolo and flutist Mindy Kaufman joined the New York Philharmonic in 1979 at the age of 22, after performing for three seasons with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She received a bachelor of music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Walfrid Kujala, Bonita Boyd, and James Galway.

Ms. Kaufman has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Music Directors Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, and Lorin Maazel.

Pianist William Wolfram was a silver medalist in both the William Kapell and the Naumburg Inter-national Piano Competitions and a bronze medalist at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow.

Mr. Wolfram has appeared with many of the greatest orchestras in the world, and has developed a special reputation as the rare concert soloist who is also equally versatile and adept as a recitalist, accompanist, and chamber musician. In all of these genres, he is highly sought after for his special focus on the music of Franz Liszt and Beethoven. He is a special champion for the music of 20th century American composers.

Founded in 1988 and based at historic Grace Episcopal Church in White Plains, Downtown Music has been offering Westchester residents a rich array of concerts performed by profession musicians for 28 years.  More information about this and other Downtown Music programs is available at www.DTMusic.org.
