Westchester Symphonic Winds Winter Concert – “Lift Every Voice”

Our 35th season continues with unique and amazing music for wind band, highlighting new compositions by American composers in a program titled, “Lift Every Voice.”

This exciting concert features soloists JoAnn Lamolino, trumpet, and Matt Bilyk, trombone, performing Fandango, by Joseph Turrin. We are pleased to welcome our guest conductor, David Blumental, artistic director of the Grand Street Community Band in Brooklyn, to our podium to conduct Stillwater by Kelijah Dunton. We will celebrate a special milestone: the 50th anniversary of the publication of Sketches on a Tudor Psalm, by Fisher Tull. And we will feature our first apprentice conductor since the onset of the pandemic, as Jessica Stein-Natale conducts Pacifica, by Randall D. Standridge.

This concert’s finale is particularly impactful. Omar Thomas used Lift Every Voice and Sing as the basis of Of Our New Day Begun, and it truly strikes at the very soul of our nation’s current struggle with equality. Other composers featured on this program are Kevin Day, Jack Stamp, and Kelijah Dunton.

The full program includes:
NAVARRO – Downey Overture
DAY – A Song for Tomorrow
TULL – Sketches on a Tudor Psalm
TURRIN – Fandango
STAMP – Panhandle Prelude
STANDRIDGE – Pacifica
DUNTON – Stillwater
THOMAS – Of Our New Day Begun

Please join us for this outstanding program as we continue to celebrate our 35th season!
