Westchester Chorale in Concert: “Rhythms from the Andes”

The Westchester Chorale announces its next concert, “Rhythms from the Andes,” to be sung entirely in Spanish on December 10th.

The production showcases the works of two 20th-century Argentine composers, Ariel Ramirez and Carlos Guastavino. With the backup of El Elqui Trio playing traditional South American instruments, the Westchester Chorale brings to Westchester County music which paints vivid, lively pictures of Argentina.

Ramirez’s Navidad Nuestra celebrates Christmas Latin American style with plentiful syncopation exuberantly sung with backup on charango, bombo, violin, quena, and zampoña as well as guitar. An unusual twist in this production will be the ten minutes of Andean folk tunes presented by the ensemble as a way of introducing the audience to the instruments which are unfamiliar to the usual Westchester County audience.

The program finale will be the delightful rhythms that embody Guastavino’s six love songs, Indianas, which are sometimes witty, sometimes melancholic but always engaging. No translation from Spanish is necessary when the Westchester Chorale sings “I love the light of dawn because it kisses you” – Guastavino’s music says it all.

Tickets General Admission: $25, Students: $10.
