Virtual Studio Visit: Jessica Lagunas

Join Pelham Art Center for a virtual studio visit with Jessica Lagunas, exhibiting artist in With Every Fiber.

“Most of my work deals with the condition of woman in contemporary society. Parting from a concept and using a minimum of elements, I am frequently interested in working with unconventional materials—makeup, hair, perfume—to approach projects that question our relationships with others and with ourselves, and confronting my fears by working obsessively in an intricate and laborious way. I use a variety of media, such as video-performance, installation, drawing, prints, artist books, embroidery, and recently weaving.

For more than 15 years, I have been working with hair as a material, dealing with issues such as aging, beauty, DNA/heredity, identity, individual expression, and community. I’m interested in working with hair as a representation of an individual, of his/her/their identity.”
