Valentine’s Day Jukebox featuring Samara McLendon and Lucy Wijnands

Continue to enjoy the Valentine’s Weekend, and join us on Saturday evening for Country Music Love Songs with Molly Adele Brown.

For a little something different this Valentine’s Day, celebrate your sweetheart with a romantic night of sultry jazz classics, featuring rising stars Samara McLendon and Lucy Wijnands, backed by the John DiMartino Trio. McLendon and Wijnands will sing a playlist of well-loved favorites, followed by a set of audience requests.

McLendon took first place in the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and has performed alongside artists like Pasquale Grasso, Jon Faddis, and Barry Harris. Wijnands, currently an Ella Fitzgerald Scholar at Purchase College, has shared the stage with musicians like Joe Lovano, Julius Rodriguez, Kenny Washington, and David Dejesus.

About the Artists

Samara McLendon

Samara McLendon

Lucy Wijnands

Born and raised in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, classically-trained vocalist Samara McLendon is a rising star on the jazz circuit. Only a junior in college, she has already performed in many of NYC’s great jazz rooms such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Mezzrow, and the infamous Blue Note with seasoned professionals including: Pasquale Grasso, Jon Faddis, and NEA Jazz Master Dr. Barry Harris. In 2019, McLendon took first place in the 8th annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. She is currently a junior in the Jazz Studies program at SUNY Purchase.

Lucy Wijnands

Emerging jazz vocalist, Lucy Wijnands is a spirited enthusiast of jazz music from its beginnings to today. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, she got her start performing with her father, master of stride piano, Bram Wijnands. From a very young age, she sang with her father in many jazz clubs in Kansas City, including the Majestic, the Blue Room, Green Lady Lounge, as well as the Endless Mountain Musical Festival in Pennsylvania. Wijnands, currently an Ella Fitzgerald Scholar at Purchase College, has shared the stage with musicians like Joe Lovano, Julius Rodriguez, Kenny Washington, and David Dejesus.
