UNDERSCORED: Quintet for Piano and Strings (1908) by Amy Beach

Amy Beach was the most famous and accomplished female composer in turn-of-the-20th-century America, and wrote nearly 300 works that brought a distinctive, affecting perspective to the High-Romantic era. Her luxurious, grandly passionate Quintet for Piano and String Quartet of 1908 was among her greatest compositions, with a formal mastery unerringly guiding a soaring, rhapsodic musical narrative. Frequently performed during her lifetime, this epic work fell into obscurity following her death.

Please join Music from Copland House (hailed by The New Yorker as “bold, “adventurous,” and “superb”) for an all-too-rare performance of one of the early landmarks of the American chamber music repertory. This virtual event includes a brief introductory conversation about Amy Beach and her music and a live Q&A between the viewers and artists. Featuring Music from Copland House artists:  Curtis Macomber and Siwoo Kim, violins; Kathryn Lockwood, viola; Alexis Pia Gerlach, cello; Michael Boriskin, piano
