Amy Beach was the most famous and accomplished female composer in turn-of-the-20^th-century America, and wrote nearly 300 works that brought a distinctive, affecting perspective to the High-Romantic era. Her luxurious, grandly passionate Quintet for Piano and String Quartet of 1908 was among her greatest compositions, with a formal mastery unerringly guiding a soaring, rhapsodic musical narrative. Frequently performed during her lifetime, this epic work fell into obscurity following her death.
