The Work

Set inside a single room in California’s Folsom State Prison, The Work follows three men from outside as they participate in a four-day group therapy retreat with a group of maximum-security convicts. As each man dares to be vulnerable, the raw and revealing process rips all the participants out of their comfort zones and forces them to see themselves—and each other—in unexpected ways. This unprecedented gut-punch of a documentary offers a powerful, rare look past the cinder-block walls, steel doors, and the dehumanizing tropes in our culture to reveal a movement of pure connection and humanity, as well as the possibility of building bridges to ourselves and others where we least expect it.
