The Tony Jefferson Trio at Alvin & Friends

On Saturday, September 13^th the Tony Jefferson Trio returns to Alvin & Friends. Tony Jefferson, a New York native, is an accomplished drummer and has been a fixture on the New York jazz scene for many years. He has toured around the globe playing both festivals and clubs with world class musicians, including the Jazz Ambassadors Tour for Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2010 (Central and South America) and 2011 (Central Asia). Tony’s passion for woodwinds and his melodic approach on the drums has led him to performing as a vocalist: He has stepped out from behind the drums to sing as a guest vocalist at the Iridium, Smoke and the Blue Note in Manhattan. The New York Times noted that “his arrangements offer wide variations in texture, from dense blends of vibes and keys to spare pairings of voice and bass. And his vocal style can surprise; at his most lyrical, he invites comparisons with [Freddy] Cole and his brother, Nat. But he is also given to flights of improvisatory fancy, calling to mind the scat singing of  Al Jarreau and Bobby McFerrin.” No cover charge, but tables are reserved for diners and there is a two-drink minimum at the bar.
