The Paul Carlon Latin Quartet

On Friday, January 29th the Paul Carlon Latin Quartet returns to Roscoe’s Room. Saxophonist/arranger Paul Carlon’s Afro-Latin tribute to Billy Strayhorn, Rumba is a Lovesome Thing (Zoho Music), made waves on its release in 2013; now Carlon returns to Alvin & Friends with his all-star quartet for a night of Caribbean sabor.  The evening promises “Latin Jazz at its very best, exquisite arranging and improvising. You are just not going to find musicians that understand the Strayhorn language and Afro-Cuban music with this level of depth. Outstanding CD, cannot recommend it enough.” — Pedro Giraudo, Bassist/Composer. $10 cover, two drink minimum.

Saxophonist and composer Paul Carlon (www.paulcarlonmusic.com) has made a name for himself working and collaborating with a variety of artists since moving to New York City from Syracuse in 1991. Bassist Phil Bowler’s band Pocket Jungle, Grupo los Santos and the late Afro-Cuban star Juan Pablo Torres were artists with whom Paul cut his teeth in his early years in New York. Paul’s fascination with Jazz, Latin and World music styles has since carried him around the world, leading to performances and workshops at festivals and venues in Brazil, Cuba,Colombia, Hawaii, the United States and Europe, with artists as diverse as Clave yGuaguancó, Ileana Santamaría, Afrobeat legend Tony Allen, RumbaTap, and master bassist Harvie S.
