The Mayor Presents: Under the Covers on a Cold December Night

Irvington Mayor Brian Smith hosts a very special ITHT benefit concert on Saturday night, December 12th at 7 pm.  (Proceeds from this event will go towards the ITHT Building Fund.)

With free beer (compliments of Captain Lawrence Brewing Company) and delectable snacks (provided by Geordanes Neighborhood Market), get under the covers with two amazing cover bands:  The Sweet Cash andUnforgettable Fire!

“When we were unable to hold our Rocktoberfest (a festival of bands in Matthiessen Park) this year, I knew immediately that I wanted to come up with Plan B,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “December 12th is my Plan B – but I hope that it will be unique and special. The Irvington Town Hall Theater has long been the center of life in the Irvington Community.  Under the leadership of theater manager Gregory Allen, we have seen an increase in the variety of shows beyond ‘traditional theater’ to include first run productions, readings of new plays, and most recently, with the Irvington Town Hall Theater Commission, Irvington’s first International Film Festival.”

With this event, the mayor wanted to create a casual atmosphere that would bring the community together in much the way Rocktoberfest had done in the park. The concert is a way for people to have a great time, listen to two incredible bands, and raise some money for the Theater.  “I love the holidays and thought this would be a great way to see my friends and neighbors,” said the mayor.

Unforgettable Fire (or “UF”) was born on New Year’s Day in 1995 as one of the very first American tribute bands to ever perform in the United States. After 20 years of playing in some of the most prestigious venues on the East Coast, UF has formed a reputation for creating one of the closest experiences to actually being at a live U2 show.

The members of UF are also very dedicated fans of U2, and will not settle for anything less than complete authenticity. In addition to performing a very impressive array of U2 material from pre-“Boy” to the most recent “Songs of Innocence” and beyond, the band does everything in their power (from wardrobe to lighting) to recreate the live U2 concert setting for their audiences.

Opening the evening will be The Sweet Cash, a band inspired by the early music of Johnny Cash — recreating the sound of Cash’s direct storytelling and pure melodies with the infectious rhythm of the ‘’Boom Chicka Boom.’   This Westchester-based band satisfies a need in the New York area for vintage country music and the sweet sounds of Johnny Cash.
