The Big Read Kickoff

Celebrate the launch of New Rochelle’s 2015 Big Read with an afternoon of activities for all ages. Cindy Lovell, Twain historian and Executive Director of the Mark Twain Museum in Hartford, CT, will reveal fascinating information about Twain and his now-classic novel. Alan Kitty, acclaimed Twain impersonator, will bring the author to life and the Big Read Reader’s Theater Troupe will give voices to the wonderful story. The family-friendly event will include also games and refreshments right out of 1840’s St. Petersburg, Missouri, including sack races, marbles, magnet fishing, and a (fake) frog jumping contest. Participants will also have the opportunity to craft a miniature raft and create a checker set to take home. Everyone will receive a free copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (while supplies last)!
