Taconic Opera invites choral singers to participate in the world premiere of a new opera!

For choral singers who are interested in something new and exciting, Taconic Opera invites you to participate in a truly unique experience:  the world premiere of a new comedic opera, In Bocca al Lupo*, by the company’s founder and General Manager and Artistic Director, Dan Montez.   In addition to heading Taconic Opera for the last 20 years and directing all of its productions, Montez’s career includes lead tenor in over 50 productions, composing six oratorios and numerous other works, teacher, author, concert pianist, and conductor of oratorios and other concert performances around the world.

*Into the Mouth of the Wolf, opera’s equivalent of theatre’s “break a leg”.

An Italian opera within an English opera, the work will be performed in both English and Italian with English supertitles above the stage.  This comedy about a buffoon trying to run an opera company takes us on a hysterical journey through the audition process, musical coaching, stage directing, backstage disasters during a performance, running the opera office, holding a fundraiser, and finally presenting the show.

All voice parts are welcome, particularly men.  Membership for experienced choristers will not require an audition.  There are no dues to sing with the chorus, however members are required to secure their own music.

There will be three performances of the production at the Yorktown Stage in Yorktown Heights, NY:  Thursday, Oct. 19 at 10:00 am for schools; Saturday, Oct. 21 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2:00 pm

Requests to participate in the chorus will be accepted until June 24, 2017.  New members may be accepted after June 24 based on their experience and musical abilities.  Singers who have a conflict with the complete rehearsal schedule may likewise be accepted based on experience and ability.

Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 pm and Saturdays from 3:00-5:00 pm, beginning on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.  Attendance at all rehearsals is not strictly required but highly recommended.  In addition to rehearsals, chorus members will need to spend some time on their own working on the music.  Rehearsals take place at the Cortlandt School of Performing Arts, 24 Old Albany Post Road/Route 9, Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
