Summer Sounds Concert Series in New Rochelle

The sound of music will be heard all along Long Island Sound and in the heart of downtown New Rochelle this summer as the New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) presents its annual summer concert series at both the historic Hudson Park band shell and a new location, the new Ro Parc (455 Main Street between North Avenue and LeCount Place). Both locations will feature great bands and food trucks.

The Summer Sounds Concert Series will kick off its 15th season on July 6th  with the R & B sounds of Billy and The Showmen, and finish on August 24th with “yacht rock” from AM Gold; in between the series will feature an eclectic lineup of musicians performing everything from Top 40 hits to mellow jazz, country hits to classical opera, as well as Latin, rockabilly, funk and soul. In all, music lovers will get to hear exciting live music at Hudson Park on 9 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, plus 8 Friday evening concerts at 7:30 pm at New Ro Parc.

In addition, NRCA will present an evening of FREE Shakespeare at Hudson Park with the Irvington Shakespeare Company’s production of “Love’s Labor Lost” on Sunday, July 17th at 6:30 pm.

As always there will be food trucks on site for all events offering meals and snacks for sale. In addition, the Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse will once again offer free yoga in the park every Wednesday before the Hudson Park concerts. Instructor Angela Derecas Taylor will offer a free class suitable for people of all abilities from 6 to 6:45 pm.

The Summer Sounds concert series is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and co-sponsored by Webster Bank, and LMXD (the mixed-income development affiliate of L+M Development Partners) and Wilder Balter Partners.

“Attendance at last summer’s concerts were off the charts,” says Theresa Kump Leghorn, President of NRCA, “so we couldn’t be more excited to be back at Hudson Park, and to help activate a new downtown space at New Ro Parc.”

Vin Paresi, Commissioner of New Rochelle’s Dept. of Parks & Recreation, says the city is proud to continue the summer concert tradition. “We’re so grateful for the continued support of Webster Bank, which has made it possible for us to continue bringing these wonderful free concerts to the community.” For more information visit the NRCA website at www.newrochellearts.org.

Hudson Park is located at 1 Hudson Park Road in New Rochelle; limited parking is available in the lot behind the stage (for handicapped access) as well as at the marina.
