Summer Reading Kick-off Event

Explore the Seven Seas! is the theme of NRPL’s 2019 Summer Reading Game – and we’ll have an amazing exhibit, programs, and prizes to help children discover all that reading and the library has to offer.

At the Kick-off Party, we have lots of activities get summer started. The centerpiece will be a 45-foot-long inflated ship that is a replica of the deep sea research vessel, Joides Resolution.  It’s part of “In Search of the Earth’s Secrets,” a National Science Foundation-sponsored exhibit that NRPL will be hosting in the lobby, along with the inflated ship – which will have a few dramatic appearance in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green on several additional Saturdays in July and August.  Our favorite musicians on stilts—the Shinbone Alley Stiltband— is returning for another fabulous performance at 11:30 am. Kids entering PreK – Grade 5 are invited to join in the fun of making snorkeling masks, fabulous deep sea creatures, summer exploration passports, and more. They’ll also be able to register for the Summer Reading Game, check out books and start accumulating points for a treasure trove of prizes.
