Summer Dance At Steffi Nossen School of Dance


This summer you can keep your dance skills sharp, work on new techniques and explore artistic goals at the Steffi Nossen School of Dance. Experience the very best in summer dance instruction and performance opportunities while having fun! You’ll find creative intensity combined with artistic expression in a comfortable atmosphere. Use the summer months to keep skills sharp, work on new techniques and explore artistic goals.

During June 22-27 MOVING WHEELS & HEELS ADAPTIVE DANCE INTENSIVE, Barbara and Sabatino Verlezza and Nancy Lushington lead this intensive, one-week adaptive dance experience for students and teachers with/without disabilities. The program includes technique classes, composition and repertory experiences and stems from Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation’s founding belief that dance is for everyone! Join us for this opportunity to improve technique and range of motion, explore and express creativity, and enjoy a collaborative artistic experience with a diverse group of dancers. Families and friends are invited to a special showing of works on Saturday. Suitable for ages 16 and up.
June 29 – July 2nd Barbara and Sabatino Verlezza will lead children 7 years and above in a DANCE CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. This accessible four-day dance program is tailored so that all children can participate in dance class, creative movement, and related art and literature activities in a warm, supportive and creative environment.

Intermediate and advanced high school and college dancers are invited to join a PROFESSIONAL DANCE COMPANY RESIDENCY June 29 – July 2. Dancers attend morning company class with Gierre Godley and Project 44 Dance Company members and understudy their rehearsals in the afternoon. This is a unique opportunity to shadow working professionals and experience what it’s like to dance in a professional company. PROJECT 44 has performed at various venues in New York City including: Bronx Academy of Art and Dance (Blaktino Festival), 92 Street Y, The Secret Theater (Queens Fringe Festival), Steps on Broadway (The Steps Laboratory Series), Green Space Studios (Fertile Ground & Green Space Blooms Series), Symphony Space (The Young Choreographer’s Festival), Dixon Place (NYC10 Series & Moving Men), The Ailey Citigroup Theater (BalaSole Dance Company featured artist), Salvator Capezio Theater (MEN presented by Sobers & Godley), FAB! Festival, Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew (Clinton Hill Arts Festival), Purchase College (Steffi Nossen Choreographer’s Showcase), REVERBdance APAP (Baruch College), and the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival. Most recently the company embarked on its first international tour with performances at Centro Maxime D’Harroche (Barcelona, Spain) and Z-Arts (Chorlton Arts Festival).

Laurel Higa and guests will teach a WEEKLONG HIP HOP INTENSIVE July 13 — July 1. Rising 6th graders and up cam join an exciting week of hip hop and break dancing classes; included are freestyling and repertory, plus dance conditioning and modern dance classes. Families and friends are invited to an informal showing of works at week’s end.

In the YOUNG MOVERS SUMMER DANCE CAMP, July 6-July 17, rising 2nd-5th graders choose to join for one week or two for classes in modern, ballet, composition, hip hop, tap, and musical theater, along with creative movement, arts & crafts activities, dance history and games. Families and friends are invited to an informal showing of works on July 10th and 17th.

During the week of July 20 – 24th in SUMMERDANCE INTENSIVE I, dancers in grade 6 and up with some dance experience participate in daily classes in modern, ballet, jazz, Pilates, yoga, composition and repertory.
Intermediate and advanced dancers in 7th grade and up are invited to participate in the SUMMERDANCE INTENSIVE 2 during the week of July 27- July 31. They will take daily classes in modern, ballet, jazz, yoga, Pilates, Yoga, Composition and Repertory. Families & friends are invited to informal showings of works at each week’s end.

From August 3rd -7th during the Dance Masters Series intermediate and advanced dancers in grade 7 and up can take a new style of dance every day to expand dance horizons and advance technique. Dance styles may include ballet, contemporary, flamenco, Kathak Indian dance, modern, musical theater, and tap.
