The Studio Artists of popular culture, vogue and couture: who were they, and how they got their hats out there


Lecture by Ellen Christine Colon-Lugo, Ph.D., exhibiting milliner and historian of millinery.

With more than 30 years experience designing and fabricating a la main millinery, Ellen Christine is well known by fashion editors and the most prestigious stylists.  Her early work in the theater world as a costumer gave her a deep appreciation for hats.  Ellen Christine earned a doctorate in Costume History from New York University.  She has a thriving millinery design and production business, including a Soho showroom and three New York City studios that produce hats according to her exact specifications.  The results reveal her exquisite talent in pattern making and the use of opulent materials.   Her credits include having had her hats in Vogue, W Magazine, and films such as Sex in the City 2 and Cold Mountain.  Her celebrity clientele includes Beyonce, and her mother, Mrs. Knowles, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Debby Harry, Alicia Keyes, Penelope Cruz, Ivanka Trump and Paulina Porizkova.
