Strut: The Peacock and Beauty in Art – an Exhibition

Wednesday, January 14, 2015
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Hudson River Museum presents Strut: The Peacock and Beauty in Art from October 11, 2014 through January 18, 2015. Organized by the Museum, it is the first scholarly survey of the peacock in art, and explores our fascination with this most glamorous of birds, a symbol of vainglory and the darling of designers and painters. We use the peacock’ shape, form and color in our homes, art, fashion, and jewelry. In art from the Gilded Age to contemporary creations, the elegant peacock can be found in over 150 objects – paintings, sculpture, toys, prints and posters – from more that three dozen museums, galleries and private collections.
