Sight Unseen

by Donald Margulies, directed by Ed Friedman

Sight Unseen is a play by Donald Margulies, acclaimed author of Time Stands Still, Dinner with Friends among many others that M&M has brought to you in the past. The play centers on Brooklyn-born Jonathan Waxman who has become a very wealthy, critically acclaimed artist. Happily married, with a baby on the way, he travels to London for a retrospective of his work. While there, he impulsively decides to journey to the countryside to visit his former model and muse, Patricia, in the Norfolk farmhouse where she lives and works with her archeologist husband Nick, a man she married in order to remain in England when her student visa expired. The play unfolds exploring issues of identity, home, and the place of art in our society.

Margulies won the Obie Award for Best New American Play, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, and the John Gassner Award, presented to a new American playwright. This production features M&M veteran Robin Joseph (Time Stands Still, Rabbit Hole, Proof, Sylvia) Steve Plaushin, last seen in How I Learned to Drive at the Greenville Community Theatre, P.J. Glazer, last seen in Time Stands Still for the Armonk Players, and Nadja Winter, who most recently appeared in the Fort Hill Players production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. The production is directed by Ed Friedman, who has staged productions such as, I Never Sang for My Father, Daughters, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, A Walk in the Woods, Round and Round the Garden, and Public Affairs.
