Shakespeare Film Festival – Three Versions of “Taming of the Shrew”


The New Rochelle Council on the Arts’ Sound Shore Shakespeare Festival returns in April to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the birth of the Bard of Avon.  The Sound Shore Shakespeare Festival will run from April 3rd to 30th, with a variety of Shakespeare-themed events planned, including films, concerts, lectures and performances. Among the treats in store: three different versions of “The Taming of the Shrew” in the Ossie Davis Theater. Free. All movies start at 7:00 pm.

Thursday April 3: The Taming of the Shrew (1967) with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, directed by Franco Zefferelli.  122 minutes.

Thursday April 17 (Spring Recess week): Ten Things I Hate About You (1999), an updated versionwith Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. Rated PG-13, 97 minutes.

Thursday April 24: Kiss Me Kate (1953) with Kathryn Grayson, Ann Miller and Howard Keel, featuring songs by Cole Porter. 109 minutes.

Read or re-read the play! Extra copies of Taming of the Shrew will be available at the library’s Registration Desk to check-out, beginning March 24.
