Sarah Lawrence College Celebrates ArtsWestchester’s “50 for 50” Honorees

In addition to other accolades they have received over the years, poet Marie Howe and novelist Brian Morton, composer Chester Biscardi and dancer/choreographer Maxine Sherman are among the 50 artists ArtsWestchester is honoring through its 50th anniversary initiative, “50 for 50.” Howe, Morton and Biscardi teach at Sarah Lawrence College and Sherman is an MFA alumna and former artist-in-residence at the College.

Stanley Kunitz described Howe’s poetry as “luminous, intense, and eloquent, rooted in an abundant inner life; Morton’s new work, Florence Gordon, has been described as a “sharp and sympathetic novel.” Chester Biscardi’s music has been performed around the world. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a recent commission from the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress. Maxine Sherman is a former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham dance companies and curator and artistic director of dance for RiverArts.

This event is co-sponsored by The Writing Institute and Graduate and Professional Studies at Sarah Lawrence College and The Hudson Valley Writers Center.

This event is part of ARTSEE, a festival showcasing new works of art throughout Westchester County in celebration of ArtsWestchester’s 50th anniversary.
